I think we need good translations of the scriptures and for that matter some translations have done better than others. This article once again shows our North America individualistic, business-type mindset.

I say this because the conclusion of the article leaves me to assume that the issue is not about getting the Scriptures right but rather how much we can sell. Listen to this "The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association reports the NIV is still the best-selling Bible translation overall, though specific Bibles in other translations are outselling NIV Bibles. Last month, for example, the English Standard Version's Outreach New Testament and the New King James Version's Text Bible outsold the NIV's Adventure Bible. The TNIV is not among the top ten best-selling translations and no TNIV edition is among the best-selling Bibles. One bright spot for the TNIV, however, has been in sales to the Amazon Kindle e-reader, where the TNIV is the third-most popular translation (behind the NIV and King James translation)".

Is Bell selling = quality? may be? the atheists are popular and they are selling lots of books too!

I am not an expert but we all agree that translation is not an easy subject and every Bible translation one way or the other is open to criticism. This cannot however alter the fundamental truth of the Bible that need be given to those who are dying without Jesus.

This is what happens when people in North America have no clue about the real need in the rest of the world, they waste their time in debates that in no way serve the advancement of the Kingdom. How many in the world have easy access to KJV or ESV or NIV? How many could read it? How many do not have the New Testament in their own language let alone the whole Bible?

One of Mr. Shaker's comments sticks in my mind, "God has his 12 tribes!" How true. Thankfully we don't all have to be the same.

It is sad to see how widespread this confusion is. Thanks for citing my favourite verse for leadership training - Ezra 7:10.
May God equip you to correctly handle His precious and eternal word.

Dear Rev. Keith,

The "theological confusion" that you have observed is apparent in many churches, even here in the Philippines. The "form and style" reflects a desire to copy the world, or its marketing practices. "Concept" preaching may reflect a lack of conviction on the power of the Word; and a lack of passion to exegete the Word verse by verse. Consequently, there is "uncertainty" as to the correct interpretation.

May the Lord raise up the tribe of Ezra, who "prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel" (Ezra 7:10, NKJV).
