There’s a new worship tune that’s playing all over the Internet. It shows up on Facebook, it plays through many blogs, it echoes in many comments.
I think I’ve figured out the words…. See if you recognize them…..
(My apologies in advance to the author of “Heart of Worship” from which I the tune.
I’m coming back to the heart of writing and it’s all about me, it’s all about me. ….
I’ve been recalling the words of admonition and challenge written by Paul to the Philippian Christians – “Everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.” We expect unbelievers to be selfish, to talk about themselves, to build their lives around themselves but sadly many of us as believers fall into the same trap.
As a child I was taught a simple chorus in the Sunday School I attended in Northern Ontario. It’s words have a profound ring – “Jesus and others and you, what a wonderful way to spell Joy. Jesus and others and you in the life of each girl and each boy. J is for JESUS for HE has first place, O is for OTHERS you meet face to face. Y is for you and whatever you do – put yourself LAST and spell joy – J-O-Y.
I know, I know–it’s a little corny but isn’t there the ring of truth in its theme. Doesn’t following Christ mean less of me and more of HIM? Shouldn’t that affect how I blog, how I pray, how I speak?
I conclude with the words of another hymn – “Others LORD, yes, others, let this my motto be, Help me to live for others that I might live like Thee!”
