Americans sent 1 Trillion Text messages last year according to a report given by Steve Largent CTIA’s Chief Executive Officer. I know my 2 daughters make use of texting – perhaps 1 or 2 million per year……. Not really, but they do text quite a bit!
Seriously, 1,000,000,000,000 text messages? This is definitely the new way to communicate but are we really communicating in a more significant way???? Perhaps for Lent each year believers should give up technology. Perhaps on the Lord’s Day we should focus more on communication of truth from God’s word rather than checking e-mails, sending tid-bits of information and maintaining our place in the electronic community.
In 2009 surrounded by technology what does it mean….
….to be still and know that I am God?
….to be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to become angry?
….to have our souls restored?
….to cast all our burdens upon Him for He cares for us?
….to wait upon the Lord?
My prayer is that of the hymnwriter “Lord, speak to me that I may speak in living echoes of Thy tone…” In order for me to hear what my Lord is saying, I’m cutting back on technology. No e-mail Sundays, no Internet Sundays, no text messages or even podcasts…..that’s my goal….what’s yours?
