A special thank you to Mt Pleasant Road Baptist Church and Pastor Lucien Atchale for allowing me to be the Master of Ceremonies for a wonderful tribute to Mr. Bob Shaker. Mr. Shaker, whose Reformation Book Service, provided solid theological resources and “no fluff” to the Greater Toronto area for many years was honored in a special service held today.
After singing some of Mr. Shaker’s favourite hymns (Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee & The God of Abraham Praise), hearing God’s word (Romans 12) and praying, we were led into a reflection on the importance of books by Dr. Michael Haykin.
In the picture below, Mr. Shaker (in his 90s) stood at the close of the service, thanking God with the words of Cowper’s hymn “God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform.”
The congregation at Mt. Pleasant under the leadership of Pastor Lucien Atchale did a marvelous job of hosting a memorable morning. In the words of the closing hymn, “To God Be The Glory!”

Mr. Shaker thanks God for His guidance!
thank you for everything that you have done for this wonderful celebration!

I was dissapointed not to be there. It looks like it was a wonderful time! Thanks to you, Michael, and especially Lucien for all the hard work in celebrating Bob’s life.
I’ll never forget moving all those books from Bob’s store to TBS!

One of Mr. Shaker’s comments sticks in my mind, “God has his 12 tribes!” How true. Thankfully we don’t all have to be the same.
