What’s Holy About This?

This past weekend,  The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was the scene of a skirmish between groups of monks who struggle for control of this “holiest” site in Christianity.   I recall my own experience in this “traditional” site in 1998 when I visited Jerusalem with a group of pastors.    We were visiting this same scene just before lunch and I surmised that the “monk” in charge was getting hungry.    “Hurry up!   Hurry up!” he cried out to us, “we’re going to close soon.” What’s holy about this?   Here are some “unholy” people demonstrating “unholy actions” and “unholy attitudes” in a holy site.

Lest we cast stones at this “not so Orthodox conduct,” wouldn’t a number of evangelical church business meetings seem as “unholy” if broadcast over the airwaves. Let’s not forget two things today – The words of Jesus “By this will ALL MEN know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another.” and the words of Paul “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
