25 Years – A Tribute to My Wife

It has been a busy week with work, ministry and family commitments, thus no posting.   Wednesday was our 25th anniversary.   Proverbs reminds us “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favour from the LORD.”

The LORD has favoured me with a good wife who has put up with this saved-by-grace sinner who still has tons of lessons to complete in God’s school of experience.  I offer this tribute as my belated testimony to the LORD and expression of gratitude to Ruth.

My wife fears the LORD – Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.   My wife has taught me valuable lessons by her walk with Christ.  She is a woman of faith – accurately assessing the reality of life situations but then pleading with God for His intervention.   She is persistent in prayer and has wept over the souls of many people God has led us to serve.  Only eternity will evidence her “pains of childbirth” as Paul described them in Galatians over the spiritual wellbeing of others.

My wife speaks the truth – While others “pretend” and at times are two-faced, my wife has never hesitated to speak the truth in love.   Some have found this objectionable, wanting rather to hear “nice things” rather than an honest rebuke shared by someone who deeply cares.   Her words have warned, encouraged, and spurred on others towards excellence.

My wife strives for excellence.  While in Northern Ontario she planned and conducted several concerts profiling a diversity of music.    I helped with the paperwork – something she detests, and served as Master of Ceremonies for “The Best of Broadway,” “The Best of the Farm,” “The Best of the 30s and 40s,” “The Best of Sacred Music,” shall I go on?   She poured tons of energy and talent into a group of amateurs and sought to bring out the best in them.  Particularly moving in my mind was the concert reflecting war time music.   Some of the audience left with tears in their eyes as they reminisced over painful memories during the Second World War.

My wife loves beautiful things.   She has transformed our house on a very fixed budget over these last 4 years.   I am the carpenter and wish I had more talent to do more but we have done what we can and her decorative touch has made a mark.   She has tons of design ideas and little by little has worked from floor-to-floor in revamping, modernizing and beautifying various parts of our house.

I could write more but this is a full week!  We celebrated 25 years on Wednesday and I trust God by His grace grants us another 25 or more should He be pleased to keep us in good health.   Thank you Lord.   My wife is one of the fantastic benefits You have provided.   Bless the LORD O my soul and FORGET NOT all HIS BENEFITS!

Amen!
