He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought!

CyberHymnal shares this edifying anecdote about today’s hymn
“As a young man who recently had been graduated from Brown University and Newton Theological Institution, I was supplying for a couple of Sundays the pulpit of the First Baptist Church in Philadelphia [Pennsylvania]. At the mid-week service, on the 26th of March, 1862, I set out to [...]

J.I. Packer quits Anglican Church

The Vancouver Sun reports that J.I. Packer has withdrawn from the Anglican church of Canada. I recall with joy reading “Knowing God” early on in my theological training and have appreciated the thought-provoking books which Dr. Packer has contributed in a number of areas.
Thank God for men and women still committed [...]

Concentration Camp = Consecration Camp

Saturday I had the joy of attending the 100th anniversary celebration for the Cheefoo schools established in China under China Inland Mission.    The birthday of Mrs. Pearl Dobson who turned 100 in February was also celebrated.
What a diversity of stories of God’s grace -
Imprisonment of missionaries during World War II.
God’s protection in many dangerous situations.

Heirs of Salvation, Chosen of God!

Heirs of salvation, chosen of God!
Past condemnation, sheltered by blood!
Even in Egypt feed we on the Lamb,
Keeping the statutes of God, the I AM.
In the world around, ’tis night,
Where the feast is spread, ’tis bright;
Israel’s Lord is Israel’s light.
‘Tis Jesus, ’tis Jesus, our Saviour from above.
‘Tis Jesus, ’tis Jesus, ’tis Jesus whom we love.

Irving Hetherington – Complaining?

I have been using “A Godward Life” by John Piper as part of my devotional time with the Lord. In selection #38, John Piper cites the story of Irving Hetherington who became a preacher in 1835 and felt called to leave Scotland for missions in Australia. Being of Scottish descent [...]

He Comes! Emmanuel Comes!

He comes! Emmanuel comes! Jesus, the crucified:
The Man of Sorrows–He Who bowed His head, and died;
Who hath redeemed us by His blood;
He comes to take us home to God.
He comes! our Advocate, Who bears us on His breast,
Himself to take us home To His eternal rest:
O let this hope dispel each fear, [...]

50th Wedding Anniversary

In a recent conversation with another believer I asked how many 50th wedding anniversary celebrations we would attend. How many of today’s marriages will last 50 years? Just in the past month I have heard of 4 marriage breakdowns, all among professing believers.
Many Christians do not understand the “covenant” [...]

Have ye counted the cost, Have ye counted the cost,
Ye warriors of the Cross?
Are ye fixed in heart for your Master’s sake,
To suffer all earthly loss?
Can ye bear the scoff of the worldly-wise,
As ye pass by pleasure’s bower,
To watch with your Lord on the mountain-top,
Through the dreary midnight hour?

Ye may drink of [...]

Online Baptism????

Dr. Russ Moore of Southern Baptist Seminary posted a link to an on-line baptism. Apparently this is the first online baptism in the world.
Online Baptism portrays the pastor in one location and a family linked by webcams in another city.
A few questions -
1) Where is the local church in this situation?
2) Can [...]
