Public Speaking

This semester on Tuesday mornings I will be teaching Public Speaking. I have spoken in a variety of settings – certainly during my ministry as a pastor. I have served as a judge for Public Speaking contests. I have listened to a variety of gifted and not-so-gifted speakers but still it is easy to say with Moses, “I am slow of speech and tongue.”
God’s answer to Moses has often come to my mind, “Who gave man his mouth?…” It is God who gave me my mouth and the ability to communicate.
As I launch into this course my desire is to be able to encourage others to speak clearly and plainly in a variety of settings. What a compliment was paid to Jesus when it is recorded “The common (ordinary) people heard Him gladly.” People “marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth.” “Never a man spoke like THIS man!”
Lord, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages for Thee! May I become a better communicator for Your glory!
