The LORD is my shepherd

Last night I had the privilege and challenge of teaching on Psalm 23 as part of Calvary’s Tuesday night prayer meeting. Wow! What an amazing text! I’m sure I’ve known it for years but it came with fresh impact.
Having cared for sheep on my dad’s farm I thought of the diversity of situations that sheep find themselves in.
…needing food
…needing water
…needing protection – we walked the perimeter of our farm placing mothballs every 16 feet (read ‘rod’ for old-timers). This smell was to keep the wolves away.
…needing rescuing – I recall finding one of the sheep stuck in soft clay at the edge of our creek.
When the bible speaks of us as sheep it is not complimentary. We all go astray. We wander. We need rescuing. But praise God, there is a GOOD Shepherd (John 10), a GREAT Shepherd (Hebrews 13) and a CHIEF Shepherd (I Peter 5).
What an awesome privilege to be cared for by such a Pastor/Shepherd – even Jesus who is called the Christ!
