The Blessing of Swallowing

Tuesday night at Calvary Baptist’s prayer meeting a dear brother (Harry Grant) reminded us of the blessing of being able to swallow food. He has had difficulty in swallowing for some time and finally ended up at the doctor’s. After a fairly minor medical procedure he can now swallow food easily again. He asked the group gathered how many of us were thankful for the ability to swallow. Another brother in Christ noted that due to his cancer treatment he has had huge difficulty swallowing.
Truthfully, I don’t think much about the process. I guess that simple blessing is another one of the many things I take for granted. It started me thinking…and noting the man I met on the street walking with 2 canes, the young woman who rides through our neighbourhood in her wheelchair, the deaf person I saw trying to communicate.
Thank you Lord for all the simple abilities you’ve given me. Forgive me for not taking more regular inventory of these good gifts. Help me to use all of your gifts to me for your glory. I cry out with the hymnwriter
“Take my life and let it me, consecrated Lord to Thee…. Take my lips….Take my hands….Take myself and I will be, ever, only, all for Thee, ever, only, all for Thee! AMEN!”
